This is pretty apropos that I would choose to talk about a football book after three straight weeks of basketball books. I say this because I was actually much more of a basketball fan than a football fan growing up. It was actually Brett Favre and his story that captivated me and made football my number one sport and form of entertainment. There are too many highlights that Favre had but for a guy my age and being a Minnesota resident, most of my favorite parts of his career were towards the end of it. Some of these memorable moments were the 2007 NFC Championship game against the eventual Super bowl champs the New York Giants, the sweep of the Green Bay Packers in Favre’s first season with the Vikings and the media attention surrounding him in the summer of 2010.
However this book was actually published way back in 2004. Still, I was eager to read to gain even more insight into his football and personal life. It was also great to get the perspective of his mother Bonita Favre who helped to manage his possessions in real estate and agriculture and to help out with the various endorsements, appearances and other stuff that the superstar quarterback was involved in.
Moreover, I chose this book over the one he authored in 1997 because it was more recent. Also, I wanted to read something that he had actually written instead of the one by Sports Illustrated in 2008. Brett has gotten a lot of his competitive drive from his father Irv Favre. There is also the side of Brett Favre being a prankster even as a child. Overall, I think you will definitely enjoy this book that does his celebrated career justice from his days in Pop Warner in fifth grade through his victorious Super bowl years and after.
